Case of the Mondays privacy policy
Kept on your device. HR never sees it, and nothing gets printed.
Last updated 28 October 2026. Applies to the Case of the Mondays app (version 1.1.0 and later) and to this website, mondayitis.app.
In plain words: there are no accounts, and we don't track you. The app shows Google ads, chosen by Google, and the website may in future (see Ads below). Tasks you type into the wheel, and situations you give the Excuse-O-Matic when HR writes the excuse, are sent to our server and to Anthropic. The tools on this website run entirely in your browser. The website also counts page views, without cookies.
Who we are
Case of the Mondays (the app and mondayitis.app) is made by Slugworx. Contact: slugworx@protonmail.com.
What stays on your device
Your retirement date, the day you started counting and your settings are saved on your device only. They are never sent to us or anyone else. Deleting the app (or clearing the site's data in your browser) deletes them. In the app's Out of Office, your supervisor's name and yours aren't saved: they're forgotten when you leave the screen. The auto-reply's return day and delegate are kept on your device, so the reply is ready next time.
This website
The Mondays calculator and the joke sick note generator on this website run in your browser. The dates and choices you enter are not sent to us, not stored by us, and not kept after you leave the page. The website has no sign-in and no forms that send data.
To see which pages get read and how fast they load, the website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and doesn't follow you to other sites. We see summaries only: which pages were viewed, the page you came from, your browser, your country and how long pages took to load. We don't see who you are. Like any website, our host (Cloudflare) processes basic request data such as your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse; we don't use it to identify you. We run the analytics because it's useful to know which pages get read (our legitimate interest), and a content blocker will switch it off.
Images you share
Posters, papers and cards are made on your device. They go only where you choose to share or save them.
Excuse-O-Matic (in the app)
The machine's reels run on your phone and send nothing. If you press "Dream one up", the situation you typed (if any) and the tone are sent to our server and to Anthropic, whose AI writes one excuse. It is handled exactly like a typed wheel task below: the same 30-day cache with nothing saying who sent it, the same daily allowance, the same refusal of links, email addresses and phone numbers. Your excuse tally and rank stay on your phone.
Anything But (the wheel, in the app)
Popular tasks are answered from a list built into the app. If you type your own task, its text is sent to our server (run on Cloudflare) and to Anthropic, whose AI writes the five suggestions. Anthropic does not use it to train its models. We keep the task text and its answers for up to 30 days so the next person who types the same task gets the same answers; nothing in that record says who typed it. Please don't type anything personal. We refuse links, email addresses and phone numbers.
To stop abuse and keep the wheel free, each typed task also carries a random ID created by the app when it is installed, and on Android a check from Google (Firebase App Check with Play Integrity) that the request comes from the genuine app. We count typed tasks per day against that ID and against a one-way scrambled form of your IP address. We never store your IP address, and the daily counts are deleted after 30 days.
Typed tasks and "Dream one up" also send your phone's language setting (for example en-GB), and our server notes which country the request came from, only to choose British or American English for the answer. Neither is stored.
Reporting an answer (in the app)
If you tap "Report this answer" under a wheel list or one of HR's excuses, we receive the answer, the task or situation it was written for, the reason you chose and the time. No device ID, IP address or account is stored with it. We read reports to fix what the AI writes, and delete them after 90 days.
Ads
The app shows Google AdMob ads: now and then a full-screen ad after you share or save something, or between wheel spins, never more than three a day and at most one on your first day. Google may use your device's advertising ID to choose and measure them, and to show ads based on your interests where you allow it. In the UK and EEA Google asks first. You can reset or delete the advertising ID in your phone's settings (Settings, Google, Ads).
The website doesn't show ads yet. When it does, they will be Google AdSense ads, and this page will be updated first. Google and its partners may then use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites, and to measure them. Visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland will be asked for consent first and can change their choice at any time from the privacy link Google adds to the page. Google explains how it uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can turn off personalised ads at adssettings.google.com.
What we don't do
No accounts, no location, no contacts, no selling or renting data. We don't track you across other apps or sites; Google's ads work as described above.
Children
Case of the Mondays is meant for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has typed something personal into the wheel, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your choices
In the app, you can use everything except typed wheel tasks and "Dream one up" without anything leaving your device. On the website, the only thing sent is the page-view information described above. To ask about or delete anything we hold, email slugworx@protonmail.com.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear here with a new date.
